since I've posted anything. Well, all I've been doing is beading. I've made a few more pairs of earrings. But, how many of those can I post. The weather had been really nice lately, like lots of sun for a change. I've been watching my old whippet get older, but he still gets around pretty good. I don't have anynew pics of him. I posted this one even though it's a few months old. That's one of his buddies Nearly in the background.

Here are a couple of beaded whippet head pin.

For those of you who don't wear earrings.

Pins measure 1 1/2 inches to 1 7/8 inches tall and 1 inch wide.

Made with delica beads, fireline thread, metal pin back and Hot Stuff glue.

Of course I had to make a needle felted head pin.
Made using wool, black onyx bead for eye, metal pin back, thread and glue.

A tribute

So I've been beading these whippet/greyhound earrings.

I usually watch tv when I bead.

Well there I am beading and watching tv and I look over at my sweet 14.5 year old whippet Skeeix.

Then it hits me. I must do a tribute to that beautful old face.

You know the one where the color starts to fade and go white around their eyes.

Wonkey ear'd whippets.

One of my favorite things about whippets is when their ears are all askew.

She is needle felted in a very doggy pose.

She wears a very girly girl beaded(by me of course) collar.

I made this quilt for my dear friend Lori.

I am honored that my friend would entrust me to make this quilt as a wedding gift.

They were printed on cotton fabric and stitched into 11" blocks.

Ok, I admit I don't always needle felt. But I do have a few needle felted items in the works.

Here are some totes and pillows I made. I printed the pictures onto fabric.

All fabric used is 100 % cotton. Each tote and pillow is machine quilted.

These were made for a fellow whippet owner and friend in North Carolina.

They are pictures of her and her daughters horses.

The totes measure about 15 inched withd and 14 inches tall, not including the handles.
The pillows measure 17 inches square.

Another box. This one is a 5 sided .

One of my friends said it looks like a little ottoman. I think she is right.

It measures about 1.25 inches by 1.5 inches not including it's feet.

This pattern came from the book "Little Bead Boxes" by Julia s. Pretl

Made with Miyuki Delica beads size 11.

Yes, I'm still needle felting. In fact, I'm finishing up a Basenji for a friend. I should have it done this week.

On the other hand I'm still working on the fabric destash. So far I have made eight quilted runners. I have donated three of them to Handmade 4 Hounds. Handmade 4 hounds is a wonderful Etsy shop that donates all of it's proceeds to a different hound charity every month.

Ok, so I haven't been doing much needle felting. But, I am working on my first needle felted Basenji, so far I have the body and front legs started.

Here are a few quilts I made.

The top quilt has Basenji appliques and the bottom quilt has Whippet appliques. All quilting is done with 100% cotton fabric.

Got boxes

Sometimes you have to put down the wool and make someting different. So here is my first little beaded triangle box. It measures 1.5 inches x 1.5 inches.
Box is made from delica beads using the peyote and tubular peyote stitch and fireling 6lb test fishing line. It has 8 mm round beads for feet and a 10mm bead finial on the lid.

This lovely one of a kind fairy was created using Geri's unique needle felting techniques.

Her body and head are completely needle felted, fully articulated and have ball and socket joints.

She stands a mere 9 inches tall and has glass eyes.

Her outfit is made from raw silk with vintage english lace trim and has crystal buttons.

She also wears felt shoes.

She wears a Burr Oak acorn cap.

She also has gold tone wire wings.

A bit about Geri:

She has won many awards for her unique teddy bears including Best of Show, Linda Mullins. And first place at the British Bear Show in London England. Her latest award is a Fist Place showing in both the Gold Coast and Adalaide, Australia shows in 2008.She has also designed for Disney and Annette Funicello.
Currently Geri has prefected her doll designs to include ball and socket joints and a functional armature system for all her needle felted dolls and anamals. Her dolls have delicate features unlike any other in the Neelde Felting Art World.

Here's a whippet I just finished. I made her in memory of a Whippet named Cat. She is now living with Cat's owner in Missouri. She stands about 5" tall. So I was commissioned to make a couple of whippet quilts. These to quilts are on their way to Phoenix, Maryland. I hope they arrive safely. So far I have done an lemon, a yellow squash, an apple and am currently working on a strawberry...Life is good.

So I had this group of colorful vege(broccoli, mushrooms, corn, beets and the like) fabric that I bought from Hancocks of Paducah a few years back. What the heck was I going to do with it? Here is what I came up with. Hope you like it. I decided to send it to my youngest sister Trudy, who lives in South Florida.
I think it looks pretty good hanging on my back fence too.

And this little guy, named Teddy, will live right here in the Pacific Northwest.
Both dogs are needled felted from Norwegian wool. Teddy has armature in his legs. Each has its own beaded collar and lies on a colorful felted mat.

Since I've been back from the National I've been playing catch up.

I've made this quilt for my friends soon to be 90 year old mother. It has pictures of the grand and great grand kids.
This Whippet named Nickelby sits a whopping 12 inches tall..What was I thinking..That's a whole lot of poking!!

This sweet leetle guy comes with his very own carrot and mat. He sits about 6" tall is solidly needle felted and has had blown german glass eyes. He will be up for sale on Ebay soon with a portion of the proceeds donated to Whippet Rescue and Placement(WRAP.)

Well yesterday I took a class taught byUna of wooly walkers .. Oh what fun. I made a little piece of felt and a cool bag. Who'd a thought it would be so easy. All you need is soapy water, a bit of merino wool roving, a piece of netting, a piece of pool cover, a slice of pool noodle and a couple of strings to secure the pool cover to the noodle and last but not least a whole lot of imagination!!..That's it.

We're finally off to Canada

Hi all, Mack here. Well as you can see my sis Emmy is finished. She's the one in the middle. And my dopey brother Houds on the end in that goofy pose. We leave for Canada next Tuesday as Vee has to trim us up and make our hang tags. We will be sorry to leave Washington as we know it's plenty cold in Canada. Hopefully our new mom, Susan, will keep us plenty warm..Thanks for watching us come to life.

Please accept my appologies for not posting sooner. But, it seems this nasty virus I got had other plans for me, like broncitis and sinusitis. I'm feeling a bit better now so must get this list done. Last Monday I got myself tagged by The Neophite Blogger

I apologize for not posting lately but have been a bit under the weather. So I thought I'd post a couple of pin cushions that were needle felted by my friend and business partner Geri Williams.

Geri and I met at a local Teddy Bear Club Meeting in 1993. I had just started making and selling mohair hand made Teddy Bears under the name Bearly Legal Bears. Geri and I became friends and would see each other at local shows and the like. At that time Geri was making alot of bears out of real fur, like coats and stuff. Eventually she moved on to Mohair and and became famous. We both designed bears for QVC. Geri also went on to design for Disney and has done shows in Japan, Germany, England, Australia and New Zeland. Geri has aslo won numerous awards in the Teddy Bear World. Currently Geri teaches classes in Australia, New Zeland and the United States. She is also working on a Needle Felting book for advances needle felters.

Wow, that was alot of poking, poking and poking. He is finally done and I decided not to work on him anymore.He stands 11" high and is 11" long, man that's alot of poking.

I'm working on a blog about "what is needle felting." But, it's not quite finished. So I thought I'd post a pic of one of my partner latest works. Meet Gladys and Valentine.

So, what exactly is Needle Felting.

Here is the wool after the sheep has been sheared and the tags have been taken off. The next stage is to wash the wool to remove the lanolin, dirt and as much vegetable matter as possible.

Here is the wool after it has been washed with detergent to remove lanolin, dirt and vege matter. The next stage is to card the wool.

Above is the wool after it's been carded.

The hand carders below looke like large dog brushes. These are used to tangle up the wool and prepare it for needle felting.
These are the needles used to poke the wool and creat art. The needles come straight from the manufacturing world where they are used to create flat felt. A 3d felter like me will hold one or two of these needles in her hand and poke the wool to creat shapes.

All that being said. The needle felter can also buy the wool all ready carded, either in batts or roving. It also comes dyed in a myriad of colors. There are also many different types of wool. Such as Alpaca, Llama, Merino...You can also felt some types of dog hair.
